From the Entrance, you have access to an upper level and the lower one. Most of the open space such as lecture theatre or library are situated on the upper level whilst the lower level contains offices and meeting rooms. This bridge reaches two side of a valley in Mount HUA in china which is a big nature reserve. Thus this building well practises the principle of being bionic and do not hurt the landscape.

The original concept of this bridge is one theory Frank Lloyd raised in the 1980s. That theory explains why a building shouldn't hurt the landscape around. Then I came across to a specific church which was designed by a pritzker awards wining architect, Peter Zumthor. Vertically and horizontally, I combined the theory and the plan, and came out with this multifunctional Bridge(School). As you can see, to name just a few, Computer lab and Gallery.

I personally define eco-friendly to be the main point of the theory and the computer lab is just a perfect example. The lab and other spaces, as can be seen from a bird view, are just reach-out spaces of the shape of the bridge. Using smoothed slope instead of using stairs is a attempt of space integration as stairs are inflexible. The shades of the sun reflected from the glass and shadow of the mountain makes the building a part of its surrounding environment.

Other than ordinary spaces, a lookout was designed to bring anyone closer to the nature by providing a space where people can just relax, with the spectacular view in front.

This is a glance of Moving element NO.1 from the upper level. This works like a perpetual motion machine as the proper use of two parts' gravity centre. Just like the theory mentioned, an artificial thing have the possibility of not being a harm of nature.

A glance of the upper Level. Library on the right of the image is in the centre of the bridge and the highest point in spite of the shading boards on the top. By vertically adopt the plan of Peter Zumthor's church, the 'tip' of the building is the library, just like in the natural landscape.

This is the folly and viewing of the bridge from the bottom of the valley. The folly also conducts the idea of not hurting the landscape by integrating with the mountain.

The school itself is the bridge and the school is a part of the bridge. Modern Contemporary design of the office and meeting areas. And this image shows the use of shading and its circular shape in contribute of making the bridge a part of the landscape.

Glancing from the sky, the whole view of the bridge(school).

Bridge(School) fly through
pt.I  Enter the bridge from the exit, then over the lecture theatre, meeting rooms and offices. Moving element no.1 is two lift cubical working as elevators over each space. Also this video pick will will take a closer look to the folly on the bottom of the valley.

pt.II showing you the no.2 moving element

pt.III from the entrance, the video takes you into the lower level of the bridge, more facilities will be shown.

Bridge plan and design idea

The shape of the church designed by Peter Zumthor is in a shape of "raindrop"or''leaf'', both of them are natural element which are essential to be adopted as the main principle of building a building cause every building should and need to be 'eco-friendly'.
In my perspective of understanding 'eco-friendly', it's simply the outcome of a building's properties. And the outcome should indicates that the building is a perfect combination of artificial and natural things. Such shape, if properly used to build a building or in this case, a bridge, can avoid the harm that a contemporary building may cause to the nature.

ARCH 1101 EXP3 MashUp

A building should appear to grow easily from its site and be shaped to harmonise with its surroundings if Nature is manifest there. The good building is not one that hurts the landscape, but one which makes the landscape more beautiful than it was before the building was built.

Studying the foldability of structures- how through advanced engineering structures could move and transform themselves is the way to achieve but architecture is life, or at least it is life itself taking form and therefore it is the truest record of life as it was lived in the world yesterday, as it is lived today or ever will be lived.

It involves a respect for the properties of the materialsyou don’t twist steel into a flowerand a respect for the harmonious relationship between the form/design and the function of the building. It is also an attempt to integrate the spaces into a coherent whole using new ways: a marriage between the site and the structure and a union between the context and the structure. However we ought to go beyond the surface, the design element, and touch upon the reality. Using Engineering to explore the structure and advances in technology and new materials comes from Arch computing, we can slowly expand the boundaries of what could be made so revolutionary possibilities had emerged for a new kind of architecture.

ARCH1101 EXP 2 Final Submission

Electroliquid Aggregation: Reviving the neglected in a functional way.

Quotes:

*A good building can maintain the continuity of the city's culture.

*By time buildings do not perform only as a shelter or other pure functional roles. They evolves into a complex  system which carry he meanings of the city's culture sometimes even the spirit of art.*In this case I use the culture of 'modernism'.

*City's skyline is its culture's perfect expression.

The final model of SketchUp is put between cliffs of the river at a channel

Originally inspired by Goldberg's idea, the platform along with a spiral stair provides the link between the two parts. The curvy one on the top shows cleanness which is one of the aspects of the culture -- 'Modernism'.

Light texture is used as pavement surface because the cleanness reflects the outcome of adapting the meaning of culture to buildings.

This night view demonstrates how Goldberg's cultural idea and Gang's functional ways collide with spark at the platform(Spiral stair) which is specially highlighted. The dark texture painted on the wall of lower parts can be seen from this view.

Seeing form inside the building is the way to feel both cultural and functional significance of the building. This night view demonstrates how Goldberg's cultural idea and Gang's functional ways collide with spark at the platform(Spiral stair) which is specially highlighted.

Staircases is both functional, clean and easy to use at the same time.

Three Textures Used:

36 Textures: Light to Dark

The reason Light textures are in the centre is that I want to bring two kinds of textures together where I believe they stand for stiff&functional and cultural feature of a building.

ARCHITECTURE suffers at the hands of its functionality (Goldberg)

Reflecting the culture of the city and reviving the neglected(Gang)

A successful Architect can revive the neglected in a functional way

*At first I want to make a building which is both functional and has the beauty of culture. But after I gave it a thought, instead of that I wan to building a building which can be roughly divided into two parts but the two parts can be well connected. The platform is where culture meets functional needs and performed as a space for a discussion.

Landmarks transcend time, however the immortality of monuments is an obstacle, in front of scientific progress --- meeting the needs of the science of today(Goldberg)

My project online

Since the size of my building is above the maximum size 3D warehouse allows so I uploaded it to Google drive.
